Cheer on Diversecities' Youth Dragon Boat Team at the 2025 Calgary Dragon Boat Race & Festival!

The 2025 Calgary Dragon Boat Race & Festival is less than two months away! We are very proud to announce that Diversecities will be entering a youth team into the dragon boat race for a third straight year. Our team consists of more than 25 members, with youth representing diverse communities, including Asian, African, Ukrainian, Middle Eastern, and other backgrounds.

Why This Matters

The initiative is designed to support newcomer and immigrant youth in overcoming the barriers of social isolation, inspire confidence, and develop a sense of belonging through teamwork and community. It is a platform for the improvement of physical fitness and mental well-being, a place where lifelong friendships and social connections are developed, an environment where culture and community are celebrated.

Our vision at Diversecities is to build a welcoming home for immigrants, where Calgarians of various ethnic origins are meaningfully engaged in the community. In the context of Diversecities’ Youth Dragon Boat Team, we intend to invest in our youth through: financial support for the team’s training and other materials, empowering youth to take on more leadership roles on the team, and fostering a team “space” that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive for all who join and call the team their own: a place where support systems grow and flourish.

How You Can Help

All contributions, small or large, will support Diversecities’ Youth Dragon Boat Team beyond this summer. Your help will play a role in encouraging and empowering the Team towards personal growth and positively impacting their future development. We thank you and hope you will consider supporting our youth as they participate in their third (and for some, their first) competition, whether that is spreading the word, donating towards our cause, or supporting the Team in other ways.
