About

Alliance of Calgary Community Ethnic Support Society, Calgary Chinatown Lions Club, and Calgary Chinese Community Service Association to deliver over 2 metric ton of rice to vulnerable Calgary seniors over the period of COVID-19 Emergency.

On Easter Monday April 13, 2020, Calgary Chinese Community Service Association (CCCSA), Alliance of Calgary Community Ethnic Support Society (ACCESS), and Calgary Chinatown Lions Club jointly delivered an initial 130 Rice Packages, or approximately 910 kilograms of rice, to vulnerable Chinatown seniors.

Dr. Josephine Tsang, CCCSA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), stated, “During these times of social distancing, it has become increasingly difficult, both physically and mobility, for seniors to go to a local grocery store to purchase a bag of rice, which can be quite heavy, to bring home.”

Seniors are the most vulnerable population during this COVID-19 crisis. the alliance felt that rice packages will allow seniors to limit their risk of possible exposure to the COVID-19 virus by reducing their need to leave the safety of their home to purchase basic necessities.

“Our organizations are proud to be working together to do our part to flatten the curve while continuing to provide comfort and care for some of our most vulnerable Calgarians,” stated by Dr. Tsang.

The alliance wanted to thank the staff and volunteers of the three organizations for their support and hard work.

In addition to rice delivery, CCCSA will continue to deliver face masks to seniors in need. Some of the face masks were donated by a generous dental office within the Calgary area. In addition, the alliance also sponsor volunteer seniors sewing cloth face masks to be distributed to the seniors in the community free of charge.
