Alex Montiel

Chief Executive Officer

Alex comes to Diversecities with extensive leadership as the Director of Project and Engagement with Pro Bono Law Alberta and board of director experience with Miskanawah Community Services Association and Calgary Fetal Alcohol Network. Alex also has in-depth experience working within Calgary’s immigrant sector at Calgary Regional Immigrant Employment Council. Prior to arriving in Calgary from Venezuela in 2016, Alex graduated with a Bachelor of Law and successful leadership experience with many international humanitarian non-governmental organizations, such as the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Alex both embodies and is a shining example of Diversecities' core belief of social mobility. Since arriving in Calgary with limited English proficiency, Alex has quickly established himself as a leader within the community and completed a Master of Arts in Leadership from the Royal Roads University.

Alex joins Diversecities at an exciting time as we continue our transformation to serve an even greater and broader number of Calgarians. Alex will be re-introducing Divesecities’ mission, values, and most importantly, our 40-plus years story of serving Calgarians in need. Alex will lead Diversecities’ team of volunteers and staff to new levels of success as we reach for our vision of becoming a welcoming home for immigrants, where Calgarians of differing ethnic origins are meaningfully engaged in the community.
